Rajouri, February 8
Residents of Darhal tehsil today observed a bandh over their long-pending demand of a Government Degree College at Darhal.
All shops and business establishments remained closed. Residents of the area under the leadership of Iqbal Malik claimed that the Darhal Assembly constituency, which was represented by Minister for Tribal Affairs Choudhary Zulfkar Ali, was being neglected in development.
“Recently, the state government has sanctioned 17 degree colleges in the state but we once again did not figure in the list,” said Karamat Malik, president, Senior Citizens’ Forum.
He said if the demands were not conceded soon they would announce the future course of action, including holding a demonstration outside the office of the DC at Rajouri. The protesters said they were being ignored by local leadership and the state government under a well-planned strategy |
